What is the Polygon network?

Polygon PoS is one of the longest-running answers to Ethereum’s cost problem: a proof-of-stake network with its own validator set that runs the full EVM environment at a tiny fraction of mainnet prices, while anchoring checkpoints of its state back to Ethereum. It predates the current wave of rollups and grew up alongside an entire generation of DeFi and NFT projects.

Years of operation have left it with something newer chains still have to earn: a broad, settled ecosystem and integrations everywhere — wallets, exchanges, payment processors and games all speak Polygon by default. One naming note: “Polygon” today describes a family of networks, and the chain we route is the original Polygon PoS — the one your wallet most likely means by the name.

Fees and speed on Polygon in practice

Blocks arrive roughly every two seconds, and everyday transfers cost so little that fees stop being a consideration — Polygon sits comfortably among the cheapest networks we route. In a cross-chain swap, the Polygon leg typically confirms within seconds to a minute.

Wallets and services sometimes wait a few extra blocks before treating large deposits as final, which is why a Polygon leg can occasionally take slightly longer than its raw block time suggests. Either way, network costs on both legs of a swap are already included in the quote.

POL, not MATIC: gas on Polygon

Polygon’s native asset is POL — the token formerly known as MATIC, migrated as part of the network’s Polygon 2.0 overhaul. POL pays gas and secures the chain through validator staking. Older documentation and some exchange listings still say MATIC, but on-chain, gas is POL.

As on every EVM network, receiving tokens requires no gas at all. Moving them onward later takes a small POL balance in the same wallet — a detail worth handling at the same time you receive a payout here.

Addresses and tokens: familiar EVM territory

Polygon uses standard EVM addresses — “0x” plus 40 hexadecimal characters — and the ERC-20 token standard. Your Ethereum address works on Polygon unchanged, but each network keeps its own balances: tokens received on Polygon exist only on Polygon until something moves them.

No memos, no destination tags — the address on the correct network is the complete destination. The widget validates the format before any funds move; matching the network is the check that matters most.

What CryptoRoute routes on Polygon

On Polygon we route USDC, issued natively on the chain by Circle as an ERC-20 token. Polygon also carries older bridged stablecoin variants from its earlier era, so when depositing elsewhere, check which issue the recipient expects — CryptoRoute payouts deliver the native one.

The widget’s selector is the live source of truth for what we currently route here. For the asset’s own story — the peg, the reserves — see the USDC hub; this page is about the network underneath.

On and off Polygon in one step

Reaching Polygon used to mean bridging from Ethereum or withdrawing from an exchange that supports it; leaving meant the reverse. NEAR Intents collapses either direction into one operation: declare the outcome — BTC in, USDC on Polygon out, or USDC on Polygon in, USDT on Tron out — and competing solvers settle it atomically, with both legs verifiable in public explorers.

No exchange account, no platform balance, payout straight to the wallet you choose; unfilled swaps refund to the address set at creation. One line of small print: no-KYC swapping does not exempt you from the tax and reporting rules of your own jurisdiction.
