What is the Dogecoin network?
Strip away the meme and the Dogecoin network is a very conventional machine: a proof-of-work blockchain of the Bitcoin family, running since 2013, with miners ordering transactions into blocks and a global set of nodes enforcing the rules. It uses the Scrypt hashing algorithm and shares its security budget with Litecoin through merged mining — the same work secures both chains at once.
The network’s operational personality is set by one number: a block every minute, ten times Bitcoin’s cadence. Combined with low fees, that has kept Dogecoin genuinely used for what it was built for — small payments and tips that move quickly without ceremony. Each block also mints a fixed 10,000 DOGE, so the supply grows by roughly five billion coins a year by design.
Confirmations on a one-minute chain
Like every proof-of-work network, Dogecoin settles probabilistically: each block mined on top of a transaction makes reversing it harder, so services wait for several confirmations on meaningful amounts. The difference from Bitcoin is pace — confirmations stack up roughly ten times faster, so “several confirmations” means minutes here rather than the better part of an hour.
In a cross-chain swap, expect the Dogecoin leg to take a few minutes, occasionally longer under load — quicker than a Bitcoin leg, slower than the sub-second chains. The status page tracks it live.
Fees and the deposit you control
Dogecoin fees are low by design and by culture — the network was tuned to keep small transactions economical. When you send a deposit for a swap, your wallet sets the miner fee on that transaction; a reasonable rate keeps confirmations predictable and your swap on schedule.
The payout side is handled for you: network costs on both legs are already included in the quote shown before you confirm. What the widget shows as “you get” is the amount that actually lands — no charges appear after the fact.
Dogecoin addresses: the “D” up front
Dogecoin addresses are base58 strings that usually start with “D”, and the widget validates the format before any funds move. There are no memos, tags or extra fields on this network — the address is the whole destination, and a payout to a brand-new empty address works exactly as well as one to an old wallet.
Like Bitcoin, the network is a UTXO ledger with no token standard: only native DOGE travels on these rails. A “DOGE” balance on another chain is a wrapped stand-in with a custodian or bridge behind it — not what this network settles, and not what we route.
What CryptoRoute routes on Dogecoin
One asset: DOGE, natively, on its own network — the widget confirms the live list. For the asset’s story, its supply design and its history, see the DOGE hub; this page is about the rails underneath.
Every swap involving this network is therefore cross-chain by definition: DOGE pairs with stablecoins, BTC, SOL and the rest of the supported catalogue, each swap crossing between Dogecoin and another chain in a single operation.
On and off Dogecoin in one step
The old route between DOGE and anything else was a custodial exchange: deposit, trade, withdraw, trust. NEAR Intents replaces it with a declaration — DOGE in, BTC out, or a stablecoin in, DOGE out — filled by competing solvers and settled atomically, with each leg an ordinary public transaction you can verify in a block explorer.
No exchange account, no platform balance, payout straight to the wallet you choose; a swap that cannot fill refunds to the address set at creation. Worth remembering: swapping without KYC does not exempt you from the tax and reporting rules of your own jurisdiction.
